Google officially increases its length for meta description to 230 Characters so that search results can be more descriptive. Meta description is the description that is shown under the URL in an organic search result. See screenshot below,
Google Spokesperson told:
We recently made a change to have more useful snippets, and help people better understand how pages are relevant to their searches. This resulted in snippets becoming slightly longer, on average.
The change has been witnessed by many webmasters and there have been active discussions on various Forums. Many popular tools like Moz, Rank Ranger also confirm the change in Meta description length. Here is the pie chart highlighting the same,
Webmasters around the world would look at updating their descriptions across pages but because Google automatically fetches description based on user queries, its better if you stick to your existing descriptions.
